I'm In Love - I'm In Love and I Don't Care Who Knows It!

I just did a food photo shoot today with the Green Smoothie Girl and Desiree (the cook behind the recipes). I am SO excited about this and all the yummy nummy food. After the session Desiree gave me this delicious Coconut Cinnamon Ice Cream. This ice cream is dairy free and has no refined sugar. Great for vegans and all their non-vegan friends! Truly it is absolutely to die for. The recipe booklet comes out this Wednesday. You can go check it out here.

11.11.09

How does life get so crazy? I swear each week I think to myself, "Ok Kate, once you finish this project then life will be normal again." And what do you know, life is never normal. But I guess that is what keeps it exciting? Right?!

Last Thursday I was able to go to a workshop taught by Nichole Hill, a photographer. I've admired her work for a long time and it was fun to get to go to one of her classes. I was a bit dissapointed in the class/organization etc. but I did learn a few good tricks and was able to mingle with other fun photographers. More than anything this brought up my strong desire to go to school and get my photography degree.

There were like 20 of us trying to take a picture of this cake... it was quite comical.

Tim and I watched my sisters kids this last weekend. Our boys LOVE when we do this because they get 24-7 cousin playing time. This is Roman my sweet nephew. Cal prefers to call him, "Moman" It cracks me up every time he says it.

Another bonus for our boys is they get to play with Sasha. Calahan LOVES Sasha! As soon as we pulled into their driveway Cal would yell out, "Sasha! Where are you!"

A few items of good news. 1: Bekah comes in town tomorrow!!! Can't wait to hang out with she and her darling boys. 2: Got a food photography shoot on Monday! Hip hip! I am so so excited about this. I'll be giving you more details when I know more.

Anywho, that's all for now.

Happy Birthday to My Love

"After a youth and manhood passed half in unutterable misery and half in dreary solitude, I have found you. You are my sympathy - my better self - my good angel - I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wraps my existence about you - and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one."
--Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre

I love you Timothy Clark.
Thank you for being my best friend.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Saur-a-Saur and Darth Vader

This is Jack giving me his best "Darth Vader" face without the mask.
It makes me giggle every time I look at it!
A very serious Darth Vader.
He was positive that his friend Wyatt would believe that he was the "real Darth Vader"
Cal-pal was OBSESSED with pumpkins! Every house we went to he'd lift up the lid to look inside each Jack-O-Lantern.
We had a fabulous Halloween and shared the spook-full night with our friends the Birds and Barells. Calahan was a hoot! He'd run up to the door just a few steps behind Jack and Wyatt screaming, "door, wait!" Then he'd give the door greeters a sweet little, "halloween! trick-treat! thank you!" then run off to catch up with the big boys and do it all over again. If you asked him what his costume was he'd look at you with a mysterious grin and say, "saur -a-saur, ROAR!" and throw his hands up in the air by his face. Oh I love this holiday and can't wait for next Halloween!

We Take Pride

Calahan surprised us the other night with this little trick. I don't know how long he's been practicing behind our backs, but this kid is good! How many 2 year olds do you know that can balance a spoon on their nose?!

I'm Home!

Wowza, it feels SO GOOD to be home! You know what comes next, I'm going to tell you how much I missed all my boys. And it's all true. It was crazy being in our old neighborhood without them. Needless to say, I partayed my little heart out in Philly and was exhausted by the end!

I have so much to tell you about my trip, like how I cried when the plane landed in Philly and then cried just about every day after that, how I was obsessed with the beautiful fall leaves and amazing scenery, how I talked all day & night with wonderful friends, how I was a crazy lady taking photos in the pouring rain! Oh the list goes on and on, but you'll have to wait until I get my feet back on the ground... I think I'll be running 100MPH to catch up here at home!

If you can't taste them for yourself, then you can at least look at this picture and lust away. These are the best darn little apple cider doughnuts you can sink your teeth into. I feel quite lucky that I could go to Linvilla and have one myself. (And if you know me, I am mad about doughnuts.... which really contradicts my whole thinking on food, but you have to break the rules sometimes right? And most often times a doughnut is it!)

We'll be in touch.

Twenty-Eight

Yesterday I celebrated number 28.
It was one of those days that you just didn't want to end.
I slept in late, and woke up to a house decorated by Timmy and the boys.
I was showered with kisses and hugs. It was beautiful.
Timmy and I hit the town, just the two of us.
It was magical.
We went to see Where the Wild Things Are. I loved this movie. Please go, just to see the beautiful pictures and lighting - it's breath taking. The music is fabulous too. Go for the music, go for the visual, go for the story, leave happy.

Thanks to all you lovelies who wished me birthday wishes!
Thank you Timmy for making me Queen of the day!
xoxo

Doughnut Falls

Yesterday for a little family activity we went up Big Cottonwood Canyon and hiked Doughnut Falls. I had been up there two weeks earlier and it was a whole new trail yesterday! There was lots of snow and everything was muddy.
Our boys loved stomping in the mud and making snowballs.

I love these mountains so much. Growing up my family spent countless hours up Big Cottonwood at our family cabin. I have many a million memories of hiking with my family. This made it extra special to take my boys up there and watch them explore the same mountains I did as a child.

This is us at the top of the trail.
You can go to the very top of the waterfall, but it was too icy, so this is the top for us!
Jack took his Yankees hat but soon it was on Cal's head, obviously it doesn't fit, but it just shows how much Cal longs to be like his "cool" older brother.
Jack in all his "coolness".
Hooray! We made it to the top!
I gave Jack the camera to take some pictures of Timmy and I. It was the funniest thing. I handed it over to him and he was snapping like the paparazzi! Here are a few funny ones. Do you like how now I'm wearing the Yankees hat?! It's much too small for my head!

This picture actually turned out quite well. Good job cracker-Jacker.

Dinner Tonight

We woke up to rain and cold weather this morning. Somehow my belly spoke to me and said, "I need pumpkin waffles for dinner tonight to celebrate this here cold weather."

And if you know me, I always obey when my stomach speaks. I hear these are the bestest of the best when it comes to pumpkin waffles. So we are going to give them a try.

Pumpkin Waffles

INGREDIENTS
• 1/4 cup light brown sugar

• 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 1/8 tsp. baking powder
• 1/2 tsp. baking soda
• 1/4 tsp. salt
• 1 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
• 2 tsp. ginger
• 1/4 tsp. cloves
• 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
• 2 large eggs
• 1/4 cup whole milk
• 1/3 cup buttermilk
• 3/4 cup canned solid-pack pumpkin
• 3 1/2 tbsp. unsalted butter, melted and warm

DIRECTIONS

1. Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl: wisk to blend. The waffles are spicy, so if you’re not a big spice fan, cut the quantities in half.

2. Separate egg: yolks go in a medium sized bowl and whites get set aside in a smaller bowl.

3. Add pumpkin, buttermilk and milk to the egg yolks. Wisk to blend and set aside.

4. Whip egg whites with a hand mixer on high until stiff peaks form – about 1 1/2 – 2 minutes. Set aside.

5. Pour warm butter into the yolk/buttermilk/milk/pumpkin mixture. As you pour, wisk to combine; this is crucial for keeping the butter from firming up on contact with the cold milk(s) in the bowl.

6. Add all of the pumpkin mixture to the dry ingredients, and slowly mix them together until just combined. The batter is thick, so it may appear to be slightly lumpy. That will smooth out when the egg whites are added. Do not overmix, as doing so will toughen the waffle texture.

7. Plug in the waffle iron and set the temp as desired. Higher temperatures tend to work best.

8. Slide the whipped egg whites out of the bowl and onto the mixture you just prepared. Gently fold them in until no white bits are obvious.

9. Once the waffle iron is heated, you’re ready to pour the batter! The trick to these waffles is to let them sit on a cooing rack for a few minutes, then reheat in the waffle iron right before serving. Why do this? It lets the flavors marry and come together for serious pumpkin waffle mouth watering bliss. ENJOY!

Twitterpated

My little brother is in love. Sorry to repeat the fact, but he is.
Last weekend I went with these two love birds up Big Cottonwood and took some pictures.
They were giggling, smiling, whispering, kissing... holding hands the entire time.
It's just about the sweetest thing, "new love" isn't it?

Welcome Autumn

In an effort to try to be as chic as my husband, I purchased my first plaid article of clothing since the early nineties. I thought it a good item to welcome autumn.

ps Timmy wanted to make sure I gave him credit for his "fashion photography".
He done good don't you think?

6 Years Together

6 years ago, on a cool September morning, I married this man in this building.
It was one of the best days of my life.

Timothy and I spent a night away to celebrate our anniversary. As much as I love my two boys it was bliss to go around with Timmy and do what ever we wanted with no worries, stresses about our boys. (thank you grandparents for watching them!) We walked around downtown, went to the farmers market and went to an awesome antique store. We were able to get some fun pictures there. I thought I'd share a few...

That night we went shopping, and to an art gallery, spoke to an angry Russian, ate at Red Rock Cafe (drank lots of delicious cream soda) and on our walk back to the BnB we saw Mandy. It was one of those moments where you are like, oh I know you from somewhere, right?! Then we walked through the Temple grounds and reminisced about our wedding day.

It was great to be out and about, holding hands with the man I love most.

PS We went and saw 500 Days of Summer, and I must confess we didn't love it.

LOVE this face!

Honestly, I just can't get enough of Cal these days. He is one crazy dude! Constantly moving, constantly getting into things he shouldn't, constantly making me laugh... We've had some bonding time these last couple of weeks while Jack is at school, and I've simply loved every minute of it. Feel free to view more pics here.

First Bike

We bought Jack his very first bike this past week. He is still getting used to pedaling and getting on and off the bike. Frankly I think he's scared to death when he rides, but he still loves it somehow. It helps that he is decked out in a Power Rangers helmet, elbow pads and knee pads. He is quite confident as soon as he has all his gear on. He's only fallen once when he turned too quickly. He got up and scowled at me like it was my fault he fell. (I totally remember doing this to my brother when he tried to help me ride my bike.) Anyways, this is big at our house. Oh and we can't forget that Calahan was about 10 times more excited about the bike than Jack was. He would have us sit him up on the bike and push him around. Jack just stared at the bike and wouldn't come near it, but as you can see he eventually warmed up to the idea.

Blue Collar Chic

Timmy came into our bedroom sporting these new boots. He said it was my "fall surprise." I looked at him and thought... my fall surprise?! How does you getting new boots equal my surprise? A surprise indeed, but I'm a little confused on how this benefits me.

"It's blue collar chic," he said enthusiastically. I giggled and probably rolled my eyes. I asked what he was going to wear with them.

He quickly replied, "Anything!"

I gasped. "Really, you'll wear your pink stripe oxford with these boots?"

He nodded sharply: "It's all about the contrast--against the preppy."

So here you have it: Timmy's new fall look is a rustic, yet polished blue collar chic. Here's to my fall surprise!

I thought this top combo would go well with his new boots and definition of blue collar chic, don't you think?

P.S. As I'm typing this post, Timmy's kicking back on our bed admiring the new boots on his feet, trying to get me to do the same.

How Quickly You Forget

How quickly you forget what a blessing it is to be able to sleep through the night without any interruptions. For the last month this little precious babe has been a thorn in the side when it comes to sleeping at night. We plan on having him wake up in a fury of madness at least 4 times per night. (last night it was more like 8) It's like we have a newborn in the house again! (minus the 30 min feedings and diaper changes, thank goodness). We are ALL feeling the consequences of being woken up every few hours, UGH. We are guessing that Cal is experimenting with his freedom of not being in a crib anymore. I even took him to the Dr's to make sure nothing was wrong with him. And let's be honest, we did have him sleep with us a few times in the beginning when we were literally zombies and couldn't put the babe back into his own bed. I think he thought it was quite cozy snuggling up in between ma and pa.

Last night at midnight Cal came waddling down the hallway with his bear, blankie and binki in tow. He knocked on our door and called out, "Mommy? Daddy?" we didn't reply in hopes he would return to his own bed. A few minutes later when all was quiet, Tim opens the door to see if Cal went back to his room. We laughed out loud when Tim opened the door to find an enthusiastic grin coming from Cal cuddled up on the floor. Really? How can you stay angry at a little pumpkin face smiling back at you?!

This boy is truly throwing us through a loop. I mean, he's always been the "mystery child" from the beginning and now he's turning into the "terrible two year old". He surly keeps us on our toes and more often than not he keeps us laughing throughout the day. We love you Cally-Wally, now will you please just go back to sleeping through the night?!

My Little Brother is Getting Hitched

This is John Dean, my little brother and partner in crime growing up at the Bagley house. To put it simply he fell off this planet in June when he met Cassie in one of his classes up at the U. I remember after their first date he came home and said something like, "uh oh Kate, I think I'm in trouble... I really like this girl!" And right he was, they both hit it off and wham bam John decided he couldn't let this girl leave his side (and she agreed). He proposed yesterday morning up near Solitude Ski Resort. They came back to a family party later that afternoon to announce their announcment, they both wore giggly grins from ear to ear. I couldn't be any more excited for my brother and for Cassie, they both make each other so so happy.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Try to ignore my muffin head in this picture, but isn't she adorable?!

My Latest Fave

This is for those of you who dare to drink green, this has become my favorite breakfast. I wake up craving it. Terribly refreshing, terribly addicting, rediculously good for you.

Pineapple-Basil Green Smoothie
***FYI this is my personal version of the smoothie not the original***
1 cup almond milk (sugar free)
1/4 fresh pineapple
1/4 lemon
1/2 bunch basil
2 handfulls of spinach leaves
1-2 heaping tablespoons honey
1 heaping tablespoon olive oil
1 tsp fresh ginger

Put all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. After everything is blended, I like to throw in a few ice cubes and blend again for an icy-cool refresher.

I've had the wonderful opportunity to photograph and attend
the Zermatt Resort cooking class series, Delicious Health.

The cooking classes at Zermatt Resort have been carefully developed to focus on proper technique and seasonal ingredients, with an emphasis on whole foods. Classes are taught by Leslie Smoot in three to four week series. Her specialty is in preparing fast, healthy meals for the busy family. Attendees will also get the experience of meeting Chef Steven Tory Robinson, Zermatt Resorts Chef de Cuisine as he demonstrates and brings a little touch of his style to all of the classes.

If you are in Utah and have a free morning to attend one of these classes it will surly do your spirits good to be up in beautiful Midway and your tummy good to taste delicious and healthy food. I have made about 5 recipes from the series and everyone in my family LOVES them. This class gave me my all time favorite green smoothie recipe, I have it every morning because it is so refreshing. Anyways, just thought I'd share something wonderful to anyone who might be interested! You are missing out if you live in the area and don't come!

PS Do I have any closet green smoothie drinkers out there?
Come out, come out whoever you are!

This is the kind of almond milk I buy at Whole Foods.
I prefer the vanilla flavor with no added sugar.

Randomness

So life has been pretty uneventful lately. Summer is winding down and we are getting revved up for Fall, and of course Jack's preschool. He'll start next week and he is SOOOOO excited. You'll be sure to get an ear full. Here are a few pictures from some of our summer fun.
This is Jack's most favorite expression. And it makes me oh so happy.
Cousin fun!
The three youngest monkeys on top and the three older rugrats on bottom.
We had a little family BBQ a few weeks ago while the Goldies were still in town. Between me, Bekah and Kerah, we have 6 boys under the age of 5.
You can imagine the fun.
Kerah's cute boys.
Alex with his bink and Izac with his cowboy hat, I couldn't resist taking their picture.
Alright, this top picture made Timmy and I laugh out loud. This is Cal's every day - Jack just has to have control of the situation... no matter what! It's good to be the oldest.

Happy Birthday Dougie-Poo

Happy Birthday Daddy-O! Every year we have a big celebration for his birthday. I can remember when I was Jack's age looking forward to Dad's birthday party. We'd have all of our extended family come and help us celebrate Dearest Beloved's birthday. It was always a huge party and I remember being able to stay up super late running around with cousins, and what kid doesn't love that?! Well now that we are all older and have kids of our own, just having our immediate family there fills up the pool... and not all of us were even there that night! We LOVE you Grampy!

Camping

Last weekend we went up to Mill Hollow with Tim's family and some family friends. This is a little tradition they've been doing for years and we were lucky enough to be here this time.
To say our boys LOVED camping is an understatement. Dirt, water, trees, rocks, fire, marsh mellows... come on this is kid heaven. We camped right next to that beautiful lake, it was paradise.
The explorers.
(isn't Tim's sweatshirt nicely tailored?)
Cal running Grandpa for all of the "Eency Weency Spider's" he's worth.
Calahan's favorite thing to do was to walk right along the edge of a lake with a hand full of rocks to throw into the lake. He was completely in his element. (especially with the bink!)

Again, Cal picking up rocks to throw in the lake.
(I chopped off my hair today, seeing my long hair here makes me a bit sad. Why must me have hair sorrow?!)
Now this is what camping is ALL about for the adults - right?! A little R&R
And of course, I think we can all agree that dinner while camping somehow tastes soooo much better. How does that work? Love the classic tinfoil dinner.
Our friend always brings up plenty of activities for the boys. I think they are painting Star Wars characters here.

Despite the fact that we were rained out 2 nights in a row, we had a wonderful time up in the mountains. The drive alone was spectacular. This is our very first camping trip with the boys and we can't wait to go again! They both had so much fun and they both slept through the night, and no one got lost in the woods. So I think we were successful! Let's just hope that next time it doesn't rain!

Subject Sleep

Since we moved here about 2 months ago Cal began to climb out of his crib. It wasn't really a problem until he started doing it 3-5 times a night. We'd wake up to hear him crying his eyes out, crumpled on the floor next to his crib. So we decided to be safe and convert the crib into a toddler bed. Something I personally, was NOT ready to do.

The first night Cal was a sleeping angel. He crawled right up into his "new" bed and slept the entire night! I woke up the next morning feeling like a proud mama and thought to myself, "this is going to be a sinch!" Little did I know that was the LAST night he would sleep so soundly. Things are getting better, but still he makes an appearance into our bedroom at least 2-3 times per night. Tim and I will take turns putting him back in his bed and lying by him until he falls back asleep. But I'll be honest he ends up sleeping with us 90% of the time because we are both too tired to take him back to his own bed. Oh the joys. (ok, truth is i do kind of like him sleeping next to me. but i just don't get as much sleep eye with a wiggly 2 yr old)

Since we are on the subject of sleep, Tim and I came into our room after watching a movie and found this. I don't know how it happened but both Cal and Jack snuck into our room and fell asleep. Every day is an adventure with these two.
